I need to own a windows pc or at least have windows 7 environment to work in for some college courses. I own Windows 7 Pro. Is there a way for me to install this onto my current my Macbook Pro Retina Early 2013 Release?
If So, How do I do this?
Can it be done to an extrernal 1TB Hard Drive that I can plug in and use only as needed?
Will I be able to install Microsoft Office 2010 to only the Windows SIde?
How do I do this?
Thanks Ahead of time.

While it's possible to run Windows 7 or the Mac OS using Bootcamp, you can run Windows 7 and the Mac OS at the same time by creating a virtual machine (VM) using VMware Fusion, Parallels, or Virtual Box. One advantage of a virtual machine is that you can put the VM file on an external drive so that the VM file size isn't limited to available space on your internal. Another is that you can back up that file and/or create snapshots of the state of Windows at any point in time and revert to that state in seconds if something (e.g., a virus infection) goes terribly wrong. I have such a setup running in a rMBP early 2013 myself and it's very fast.

- How do I install windows from USB on Macbook pro 3,1 ?
My Superdrive is far from super anymore, So I managed to make an extern drive with both Snow Leopard Partition, Lion Partition (Since I thought Boot Camp 4,1 would bypass my problem), and Time Machine partition, Since I got 1. USB drive that works.
- My general issue is that Boot camp Refuse to see the USB drive - (Many 'how to'´s though show how they install windows perfectly through the USB port, but they use airbooks!, and somehow the Macbook will not ?)
I fix that issue with >> rEFIt <<, that suddenly makes it possible for the Mac to see the USB drive, and partitions.
Which was very strange since I could use an extern HD with the whole installation to start up wipe the whole disk, and then use my extern drive with partitions to install Snow Leopard and get everything as before with timemachine. Very smart with timemachine, but very lucky that I have a extern drive that runs the whole system and that I made the partitionsdrive before. DVD-drives are the past!
Point: So the original system could see the Snow Leopard installation USB disk, but boot camp cannot find the USB drive ?????????
After rEFIt I booted and then I got this error:
Starting bootmgr.efi
Error: Unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi
I read it could be a problem with the Windows software, so I purchased an extern DVD drive, Used Disk Utility to make an image (.DMG), then used another program to convert the .dmg to .ISO.
Then downloaded a trialversion of vmWare fusion, and installed windows from the iso. Everything worked brilliant, except and that is why I want to use boot camp, Running windows in another program while running the mac system is a little hacky and slow.
Point: Nothing is wrong with the windows software, and windows runs fine.
I then downloaded the Windows DVD / USB Tool, reformatted a USB drive as Master Boot Partition, MS-Dos Fat partition, then after lots of struggling got Vmware, windows to recognise the USB drive. And installed the windows software on the USB drive, as all the walkthroughs recommend.
Then I tried for 'fun'! to just install windows form the extern USB drive, and with rEFIt it will see the drive and start to do something, but then when it starts to boot, the screen just turns into black and nothing happens, and you can see the drive does NOTHING. (I think it is because I only have 1 USB drive and the Extern DVD drive does not get enough power, but again the mac refuse to see the USB drive unless it is a Snow Leopard installation USB-drive!
Well trying to install Windows Ultimate 64 Bit, which worked great in vmware, because that program installed from the .ISO file that I had on the desktop, but trying with Boot Camp did not get anywhere, what kind of **** program is this boot camp anyway!?, but then I try the new USB disk with windows made from windows, thorugh rEFIt, it sees the disk and then starts and then I get this ERROR:
rEFIt - Booting Legacy OS
Starting legacy loader
Using load option ´USB´
Error: Not found returned from legacy loader
Error: Not found from LocateDevicePath
(x 9 times)
Error: Load Error while (re)opening our installation volume
The firmware refused to boot from the selected volume. Note that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple´s firmware for legacy OS booting
(Hey Apple please send out a updated firmware that fix this issue?!)
So how do I do it ? - or is the only option to fix the partition running the system from the extern disk. Format the whole drive in 2 from the 'bottom' and install windows and then afterwards install Mac on the other partition ? Or just run windows on the mac and forget about mac software ? What a stupid solution..There are strings in the pliist file to add other Macs so that you can use some USB-DVD drives.

And on PC booting Windows from a USB DVD to do the install is usually a piece of cake, sometimes you just need to specify that USB in the BIOS boot order and sometimes select via F12 (or another Fkey) and that is it.
What you have here seems to be everything and everyone is excluded unless there is a mac-model device ID string that specifies yes. An unnecessary hurdle. - How do I install windows 7 on a macbook pro mid 2009 using bootcamp and no optical drive?
My optical drive is non-functional and I want to dual boot with win7. The only problem is my macbook does not boot from USB at all, even when I hold th ALT key down when it is starting up.
-I have a flashdrive with win7 on it.
-I mounted the ISO of win7 with toast for bootcamp to do its thing.Good luck.
Consider this a bump so that hopefully someone with better news spots your thread.

To get advanced graphics in a game, your computer needs what is called a 'discrete' graphics processor, or GPU. This means a seperate chip that processes graphics. In Apple laptops, these are only found in the 15' and 17' MacBook Pro. It is not common to find these in laptops in general that are not expensive and high-end. What you have in yours is an 'on-board' or 'integrated' GPU. This means that graphics processing is done by a small portion of your main processor (the Intel i5 board). This takes away a portion of primary prossessing and dedicates it to graphics. This works perfectly find in most scenarios, but video rendering, gaming, and 3-D graphics tend to suffer. Most high-end, modern games require discrete GPUs to run at full quality these days.
As far as running Windows 7 and Mac OS both, yes you absolutely can. If I cannot install windows 7 on this MAC, so tell me what I will do with this MAC ?I agree with the optical drive, mine acted strange, and i thought people were crazy and my drive was shot, but a simple cleaning disc worked miracles.
But- are you trying to reboot with both the USB install and the DVD install both plugged in? that would definitely cause confusion.
Do this, reboot with NOTHING plugged in. Once you hear the Mac chime, immediately press and hold option.
You should only see the Mac HD, and Recovery Partition.
THEN plug in your external DVD, and wait a min or two, you should see a disc icon appear next to the recovery partition that says something like windows. If that doesnt appear after a min or two, unplug it and put the USB stick and do the same thing. I had to do it this way on my mid 09 MBP.

I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the 'Genius' ' can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.

Where can i get the windows support software for my macbook?Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.

Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education. - Hi everyone
I recently bought a MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2014, 15', 2.8GHz, 1TB SSD) and wanted to install Windows 8.1 on it via bootcamp.
I have an official .ISO package of Windows 8.1 (it's x64, I checked), got it from MS Dreamspark as a student, and a valid serial number for it, of course.
Burned the image on a 16gb flash drive via bootcamp and proceeded to install. When asked by windows installer which partition to install on, selected bootcamp and clicked 'format', as it was recommended to do in various instructions on the internet (as it wouldn't install without formatting, I tried). The installation went good and finished, but immedeatly after that the installer gave me a notification 'Impossible to update computer loading configuration, installation cancelled' (maybe it's not exactly like that, translated as accurately as I could, I'm installing windows in Russian).
I tried it twice, each time re-burning the installation drive. Got the same error each time.
All the software (OS X, bootcamp, etc.) is up to date, the macbook shouldn't have any problems as it was bought just a few days ago.
How can I solve this problem?yes sorry if it ruin the ending of one of the youtube clips you will be witching if you have problems as how you install windows in bootcamp
https://www.google.dk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF- 8#q=install+windows+8.1+on+macbook+pro+retina&tbm=vid - Apple replaced the logic board, wiped the computer, did a fresh instal of the OS, and also a fresh instal of all the programs during the beginning of 2015. The GeekBench scores are the highest of any of the similar computers (at least on the day of my testing). But here's what's happening. The Macbook Pro Retina has a GeForce GT 650m with Cuda Technology and it can't handle editing in Premiere Pro with Cuda Acceleration turned on. Open CL, a second form of graphic acceleration on the Macbook Pro, appears to be functioning properly.
At the Apple Store on 1-10-2015, I was told that since the logic board and the graphic cards have been replaced that there is nothing they can do and they recommend contacting Corporate. This comes after they told me to buy a new logic board and that that would solve the problem. This comes after Apple did not listen, for over a month, about the possibility that they didn't properly build a professional notebook computer.
The computer displays a black program monitor screen, at random times, when the user edits footage with Cuda Acceleration enabled. It used to lead to an entire system crash and/or a Premiere Pro crash before the operating system was completely re-installed. My solution, since I bought the computer, was to edit in Open CL.. However, I've come to learn that there is a major difference in performance between Open CL and Cuda Acceleration.
For the Macbook Pro Retina, Adobe Media Encoder render times are about 20% faster with Cuda Acceleration than Open CL. The 2013 Macbook Pro Retina appears to be able to handle Cuda Acceleration in Media Encoder, but I have had a number of issues leading to program crashes on every project before the new logic board and operating system were installed. For over a year and a half, I actually never used Cuda Acceleration. Having sent every crash report and user data to Apple over that time, I truly expected an update of some sorts and it never came.
FYI: The latest Macbook Pro Retina uses the GeForce GT 750m.. This is essentially the same graphic card that performs about 10 - 20% faster due to a new 'boost mode.' More importantly, it actually has the exact same number of Cuda cores. Having the same number of Cuda Cores means that the Cuda Acceleration is essentially the same when exporting or viewing video. To prove a point to Apple that their 2013 Macbook Pro Retina isn't functioning properly, I bought the latest computer with the 2.5 i7, 16gb Ram, 512gb SSD and I can honestly say that the 2014 model works perfectly fine with Cuda Acceleration turned on while editing in Premiere. I can also say that a proper render test proved the 2013 and 2014 model to be the exact same.
I'm new to this whole pay $2700 for a computer that your manufacturer didn't / can't test properly, so I will be contacting Apple and speaking with Senior Advisors, their Customer Support division, and will soon speak with their Corporate branch. I'm confident that the Early 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with a 2.7 i7 16gb Ram and a 512 SSD is nearly the same at rendering video and editing video, provided the Cuda Acceleration works, as their latest 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with the 2.5 i7 processor 16gb Ram, and a 512 SSD. It's truly a great computer and a great build, minus their current inability to properly test / diagnose their computer.
Knowing that the latest graphic card in the Macbook Pro lineup is essentially the same model, I feel that Apple is not directly looking into the viability and life span of their current Macbook Pro Retina product line. They can't test for performance issues relating to their graphic cards, so why consider buying from them when the end user is actually in a position to experience up to a 20% decrease in certain professional programs.
For future reference, I'd strongly urge other individuals to avoid purchasing Apple products if they offer Cuda Technology. In my opinion, Apple is an Open CL organization, at best, who is not responsibly manufacturing / producing computers that fit their organization's strengths. For a fact, they can't test their Cuda Technology and won't even attempt to address Cuda Acceleration errors for Apple owners (01-11-2015). I say this having walked out of the Apple Store on 1-10-2015 with virtually no support other than to contact Corporate.Looks like a RAM issue.

IE9 is and can be secure and work just fine and I do prefer it to others, but Firefox lets me work in Apple Community easier is all.
Safari still bogs down trying to open multiple tabs, isn't multi-thread efficient, isn't memory efficient or well behaved - beyond the advandages of keeping code in memory it is still a memory hog. Open the same 20 tabs in any other browser is the best way I know. I also don't trust Google that much for security, I consider Google tracking and adsense to be a nuisance. Firefox gives some semblance, especially with add-ons, to tracking, cookies, privacy, and blocking content the best.
